Tracking your vendors and products in Recon
Recon allows you to define the vendors and products used in your environment. This helps you configure monitoring that reflects the technologies your organisation relies on.
By adding vendors and products to Recon, you create a reference list of technologies that can be used when setting up Smart Alerts.
This allows you to receive alerts when vulnerabilities match both your alert criteria and the vendors or products relevant to your environment.
Adding Vendors and Products
Recon includes a large catalogue of vendors and products that you can add to your monitoring scope.
To add vendors or products:
- Through Alerts → Smart Alerts, navigate to the Vendors & Products section in Recon.
- Search for the vendors or products relevant to your environment.
- Select the ones you want to track.
- Save your selections.
Your selected vendors and products are then stored as part of your technology stack configuration in Recon.
Why Add Vendors and Products
Defining your vendors and products allows you to tailor monitoring in Recon to the technologies your organisation depends on.
This is particularly useful when creating Smart Alerts, where you can configure rules that trigger only when vulnerabilities affect vendors or products you have selected.
This helps ensure alerts are focused on the technologies that matter to your environment.
Using Vendors and Products with Smart Alerts
When creating a Smart Alert, you can enable the option to use your saved vendors and products as part of the alert rule.
When this option is enabled, the alert will only trigger when vulnerabilities match both:
- the alert conditions (such as risk rating, CVSS, EPSS, or intel tags)
- your selected vendors or products
For example, you might configure an alert that triggers when:
- a vulnerability has a Potential Public Exploit (PPE) or Proof-of-Concept (POC) tag
- the risk rating is High or Significant
- the vulnerability affects any of your saved vendors
This approach helps ensure alerts remain relevant and actionable, without requiring you to manually specify vendors in every alert rule.
Keeping Your Vendor List Updated
Your technology stack may change over time, so it’s useful to periodically review the vendors and products saved in Recon.
Adding new technologies and removing outdated ones helps ensure your Smart Alerts remain aligned with your environment.
